BE THE LOTUS

White water lily floating on a reflective pond with green leaves. Bright sunlight highlights petals, creating a serene and peaceful scene.

“You must be a lotus, unfolding its petals when the sun rises in the sky, unaffected by the slush where it is born or even the water which sustains it!”   Sai Baba

In the gentle wisdom of Sai Baba, we find a profound invitation to rise above our circumstances and bloom into our truest selves. His words paint a vivid picture of spiritual strength and grace. The lotus flower, rooted in the mud yet reaching for the heavens, becomes a timeless symbol of our own potential to transcend the challenges of life and embrace the light within. Imagine the lotus for a moment. Its journey begins in the murky depths of a pond, surrounded by silt and sludge. This is not a pristine birthplace—it’s messy, chaotic, and far from ideal. Yet, from this unlikely origin, the lotus grows. It pushes through the water, steady and determined, until it breaks the surface and opens its petals to the sun. Untouched by the mud below or the water that carries it, the lotus radiates purity and beauty. What a powerful metaphor for our own lives!

Dear Angels, I find it interesting that the dragonfly has a similar story. It too is born in the sludge and faces a real challenge just to make it to the surface of the water to be able to take flight. We, too, are often born into the "slush" of hardship, doubt, or pain. Our roots may lie in difficult circumstances—past wounds, fears, or struggles that threaten to define us. The "water" of daily life—our responsibilities, relationships, and the constant ebb and flow of emotions—sustains us, yet it can also pull us under if we let it. So how do we become like the lotus?

Dear Ones, like the lotus, you are called to rise, to unfold your petals toward the divine light, and to let your inner beauty shine no matter where you began or what surrounds you. This unfolding is not about escaping your reality; it’s about transforming how you live within it. The lotus doesn’t reject the mud or the water—it simply grows through them. In the same way, you don’t need to deny your struggles or pretend they don’t exist. Instead, you can choose to see them as the soil and sustenance for your growth. Every challenge, every tear, every moment of uncertainty is part of the journey that shapes you. But it does not have to taint you. You can remain untouched, your spirits pure and resilient, as you turn your faces toward the "sun"—the eternal source of love, hope, and truth. Each morning, as the sun rises in the sky, you can pause and set your intention to rise above. You can breathe deeply and remind yourselves that the slush of yesterday does not define today. You can let go of the weight of judgment—both of yourselves and others—and allow your petals to unfurl with compassion and grace. Meditation, prayer, or simply a quiet moment of gratitude can be your way of reaching for the light, trusting that something greater is guiding you upward. The lotus also teaches detachment. Its petals, though surrounded by water, remain untouched by it, glistening in the sun. Similarly, you can learn to move through life without clinging to the chaos around you. We encourage you to love deeply, work passionately, and live fully, yet hold it all lightly—knowing that your true essence lies beyond the temporary waves of this world. This is not indifference, but a sacred freedom that allows you to bloom no matter the season.

Angels Whisper: As you walk your spiritual path, let the lotus be your guide. Embrace where you have come from, honor what sustains you, and rise toward the light with unwavering faith. You are not the mud. You are not the water. You are the flower, destined to unfold in radiant beauty when the time is right. Trust in that destiny. The sun is rising—will you open your petals to meet it? In the words of Sai Baba, be the lotus. Unfold. Shine. And let the world witness the miracle of your resilience.

Today, I promise to be the lotus.
