FOMO ADDICTION

“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you." — Anne Lamott

There’s a lot of talk about addicts and the importance of letting go of their substance of choice. Very few are talking about digital addiction and how it can be just as destructive as anything else. FOMO, or fear of missing out, is a real phenomenon that is happening today. That constant urge to check your phone for messages or social media updates, the constant exposure to seemingly perfect lives, and, ultimately, information overload are the reality of digital addiction.

Dear Angels, it is so easy to get caught up in digital addiction and to justify it in our lives. It helps us create communities, connect with each other, and retrieve information about pretty much anything and everything at just the click of a mouse. Detoxing from this addiction through unplugging is no easy task once we are deep in the throes of the seeming necessity of the devices along with the FOMO effect.

Dear Ones, change is one of the hardest things for humans to do, even when faced with the benefits of doing so. By stepping away, humans can reconnect with nature and be more present with each other. You laugh at the picture of everyone sitting around a dinner table glued to their devices, while in reality, it is a tragedy. If there are no boundaries or even the recognition that boundaries are necessary, then the addiction will continue and even take on an even bigger hold on your lives. We encourage you to take a closer look at your reliance on technology and how it is interfering with various aspects of your life. Bring balance back by limiting the amount of time you allow yourself to be immersed in the digital world. Take your life back and prioritize what you are doing with your precious time on this planet.

Dear Angels, thank you. I love you. Namaste, y’all.

Today, I promise to step away from all devices throughout the day to have a better connection with myself and my higher self.
