I Want To See You Be Brave

“The new dawn blooms as we free it. For there is always light if only we’re brave enough to see it, if only we’re brave enough to be it.” — National Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman

Being brave is not always easy. I just heard a new song that came out for cancer awareness called “Truly Brave” and the video is amazing. I remembered some of the lyrics from the original song by Sara Bareilles that touched me when I was going through the cancer journey in 2019:

“You can be amazing

You can turn a phrase into a weapon or a drug

You can be the outcast

Or be the backlash of somebody's lack of love

Or you can start speaking up

Nothing's gonna hurt you the way that words do

And they settle 'neath your skin

Kept on the inside and no sunlight

Sometimes a shadow wins

But I wonder what would happen if you

Say what you wanna say

And let the words fall out

Honestly I wanna see you be brave.”

Being brave does not always mean we are out there marching on the front line. Sometimes, it is just being authentic, just speaking our truth. The fires we go through in life shape us. I am grateful for every experience I have had, including breast cancer. October is breast cancer awareness month and each year I am more and more grateful for each tick on the calendar as I not only survived but thrived. As I sat at the beach today at the very spot where I decided to be brave back in 2019, I remembered that time with a new appreciation for who I am today having come through the storm.

Dear Angels, when we go through some of the heaviest times and strife on this earth journey, we realize how important it is to keep perspective of our spirit self. This human body suit only fits for a short period of time and then we hang it up. But while we are wearing it, the things we deal with in the physical can sometimes be hard to deal with. Any words of encouragement?

Dear Ones, as the words in the song point out so clearly, it is a decision you make as to how you respond to life’s challenges. You can let it knock you down to the ground or you can rise up, speak up and be the magnificent brave you that knows where your power comes from. It is always important to have the remembrance of who you truly are and how empowered you are. Focusing on this keeps the perspective of events that have happened in life as what they are – neutral events. They can only have an effect on you in your now moment if you allow it. Stay true to you, stay in your heart and be brave.

Dear Angels, thank you. I love you. Namaste y’all.

Today, I promise to be brave.
