LISTEN TO THE SILENCE

"Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can." — Arthur Ashe

I had a discussion with a new friend tonight about silence. In all the hustle and bustle of life, we sometimes forget to take time to be silent. For some, it is quite a challenge. If you feel a need to fill every moment with something, being silent can take you out of your comfort zone. There is a saying started by the poet Thomas Carlyle that “silence is golden.” Studies have shown that silence does more than promote calm, it regenerates brain cells. But so much of our lives is not silent, with the thought that we must be doing something to be productive or effective. Thich Nhat Hanh said, “Silence is essential. We need silence just as much as we need air; just as much as plants need light. If our minds are crowded with words and thoughts, there is no space for us.”

Dear Angels, I know how I feel when I sit in silence. It is a blissful state once I settle in and allow myself to just be. It is a treat that we can give ourselves at any moment and benefits us so much.

Dear Ones, as you sit silently without noise or distraction, you can come alive inside and outside through whatever you feel that surrounds you. Sometimes, it is nature’s music, such as waves coming and going in the ocean, leaves rustling, or birds chirping sweet songs of joy. Sometimes, it is a beautiful energy of peace that cannot be explained or even put into words because no words are necessary. Through all of this, you can find your inner solitude. Once you let it surround you and bless you, you can fully appreciate who you are as a spirit being. It is much different than the human experience. It is pure joy, pure unconditional love and it is an appreciation for the Divine.

We learn patience and release stress. We breathe in and out as the tides flow, washing ourselves clean of anxieties that overwhelm us. And when all of Nature’s noises stop and we sit in utter silence, we learn to delve inward. We hear our own heartbeat, become more aware of our breath sounds, and notice our place in this wondrous world. We realize—above all—that we are not alone in this noisy, bustling, and at the same time, eerily quiet world. Instead, we see that we are connected to Nature at its core, and that whatever happens within it happens within us as well. We encourage you to take a breath each day to enjoy a moment of silence. You will be glad you did.

Dear Angels, thank you. I love you. Namaste, y’all.

Today, I promise to sit in silence every day to rejuvenate and allow Source to flow through me.
