OH MY, THE BEAUTY OF OUR LAND
“Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influence of the earth.” —Henry David Thoreau
Today, I was in 3 states within a span of about 15 minutes. “This is so crazy” was my thought as another welcome sign popped up and suddenly I wasn’t in Arizona anymore but was in Nevada. But wait, then I wasn’t in Nevada, but was back in Arizona only for a hot minute and then another “welcome to” sign and this time it was Utah. I have never traveled through states so fast! With mountain range after mountain range, my breath was taken away. Once I was properly in Utah, though, I was like a kid in a candy store. The speed limit was 80 mph but I only wanted to go 30 so I could take it all in. Utah understands how beautiful its mountains and canyons are, so they have pull-off areas with the most beautiful scenic viewpoints. I couldn’t help myself. I was stopping at every one of them and snapping pictures and video until I realized that if I continued to do this, I was not going to make it out of Utah in the time I needed to. Oh well, guess I will have to come back! I found myself singing a line from a popular song as I rounded corners – “Oh my, Good Lord!” It was the only thing that seemed to fit. At one point, I said out loud, “You did really good, God.” If you have never experienced this magnificence, I encourage at least a drive through the area. In my next life, I want to discover it sooner and ride a motorcycle through there! Here are a few interesting facts about Utah: its highest peak is over 13,000 feet (I was at 7700 at one point today and looking up at a mountain that seemed to reach the sky). It has 5 national parks, 6 national forests and 43 state parks! Great Salt Lake is the largest saltwater lake in the Western Hemisphere, and one of the largest terminal lakes (lakes with no outflow) in the world. The highest temperature ever recorded in Utah is 118 degrees and lowest was -60 degrees. Popular inventions which came out of Utah include the electric traffic light, frisbee and the artificial heart. To say that I am enamored by this state is putting it mildly! Fun fact: There’s a law against hunting elephants in Utah!! P.S., there are none there. I think I need an “I love Utah” bumper sticker!
Dear Angels, the natural beauty of our planet thrills my soul to observe and bask in the miracles of it all. It truly is one of those things that have to be experienced and cannot be put into words. I certainly appreciate this wonderful journey that I am on and the opportunity to see this beauty with my own eyes. Author Rachel Carson says, “Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature -- the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter.”
Dear Ones, the beauty of creation reminds us of God and our ability to see God’s presence in everything that was created. When you respect any part of God's creation, you see value in what God created and admire the creator. From the beautiful mountains and valleys to the crystal lakes and vast oceans, you can see how spectacular the creation is. We encourage you to do the same with your own existence. See the beauty inside and outside and know that you are wondrously and miraculously made. Honor yourself just as you do the beautiful creations you observe in nature. Love fully and deeply all of life on your planet.
Dear Angels, thank you. I love you. Namaste, y’all.
Today, I promise to see everything as a miracle created by God.
