PRECIOUS GIFTS

“If with kindly generosity
One merely has the wish to soothe
The aching hearts of other beings,
Such merit has no bounds.” Quan Yin
I have received many gifts in life, including the gift of a human organ which has extended my life almost five decades beyond what would have been had I not been blessed to receive it. I met with a couple of friends tonight who I treasure dearly as two of my closest spiritual brothers – Don and Norman. The gift that was bestowed on me tonight took my breath away. I was gifted a rare golden quartz that was hand carved with the image of Quan Yin. It was crafted in the mountains of Hawaii, which interestingly I visited those same mountains 25 years ago. While there, I encountered a native Hawaiian who was crafting shell necklaces and received one from him which I still have in my possession today. This gift of the Quan Yin stone has such a deep meaning in my life. She is one of my spirit guides, the bodhisattva of mercy and compassion. Connecting with her energy always brings me great joy. She helps me to see the innocence in others which allows great healing and acceptance of all beings as worthy of love. Legend says that she was exiled by her own father; yet, when hearing of his impending death later in life, she sacrificed much to save his life. This nonjudgmental love and compassion is always present when connecting with her and is an example for us all to hold as a model to adhere to. As I sit tonight holding this precious gift with tears of joy flowing, I feel her speaking to me about showing compassion to the world and carrying on her mission to spread love and joy. That is my life mission and will continue to be so as long as I have breath in me – and then beyond that to eternity.
Dear Angels, how do we embody this love and compassion? How do we honor the divine in each other, not just in fleeting moments of inspiration, but as a way of being?
Dear Ones, The first step is to see. Truly see. Every person you meet—whether a stranger on the street, a loved one at your table, or even someone who challenges you —carries a spark of the Divine. Their joys, their wounds, their silent struggles are all part of a greater story. When you look with eyes of compassion, you begin to recognize that the aching heart of another is not so different from your own. This recognition dissolves the illusion of separation and invites you to approach each interaction with reverence. Compassion grows when you listen—not just to words, but to the spaces between them. So often, an aching heart doesn’t need fixing; it needs witnessing. To listen deeply is to say, “You are not alone.” It’s an act of presence that honors the divine within the other, acknowledging their worth without judgment or agenda. In your next conversation, resist the urge to interrupt or solve. Instead, let your presence be a soft landing place. Hear the tremble in a voice, notice the flicker of emotion in someone’s eyes. Your attention, given freely and without expectation, becomes a balm for their spirit. To embody this love outwardly, you must also extend it inwardly. The Divine dwells within you too, and your own aching heart deserves the same compassion that you offer to others. When you falter, when you feel unworthy or overwhelmed, you can pause and hold yourself with kindness. This self-compassion becomes the wellspring from which you draw strength to uplift others.
Angels Whisper: Take a moment each day to sit quietly. Place a hand over your heart and breathe. Whisper to yourself, “May I be at peace. May I be free from suffering.” As you nurture your own spirit, you’ll find your capacity to love others expands beyond measure.
Today, I promise to honor each being I encounter as the true innocent spark of the Divine they were created to be.
