PRICE TAGS
“Happiness is a choice. For every minute you are angry, you lose 60 seconds of your own happiness.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
We have come to a place in our modern world where we consider that everything has a pricetag. When I was a child, we simply went to the garden to get what was needed to cook or we gathered eggs from the chicken coop or one of the animals sacrificed itself to provide nourishment for us. There was no supermarket full of food. Mom would can vegetables and fruits for the wintertime. We picked berries off the vine and had trees that provided nuts and fruits. It was a simple life but all our needs were met. It is also a very different experience than we have today where we get in a vehicle and drive to a store to pick items from a shelf or from a cooled or frozen section. Then we usually face sticker shock when the cashier rings up our purchases. We have been conditioned to expect a price value for even the necessities of life. But what about the price of our emotions? Imagine if we had to “check out” after we buy a minute of anger or sadness? How much would it cost? The real price can be observed in what it does to us. Let’s be honest. Who stays angry for only a minute? When we let ourselves indulge in anger, it usually sticks around for a while. Then, let’s say you indulge in that anger for an entire day. That's 1,440 minutes of happiness or contentment that you have potentially missed out on. When put into perspective, the price of allowing anger for any length of time seems too high to pay, doesn’t it?
Dear Angels, when we look at things that can steal our joy if we allow it, it is a good idea to consider the cost of our choices. If we can recognize when anger starts to bubble up, we can then pause and ask, "Is this situation worth my happiness?" We live with the consequences of our choices so it seems that the emotionally intelligent way to handle each situation is to look at it from this perspective. It is easy to fall into the trap of reacting to situations before considering the price we will pay. It is like loading up a shopping cart without looking at the price tag of each item and then getting upset at the amount it costs when we check out.
Dear Ones, emotions are a part of the human experience. You were given a brain to help in the reasoning process of dealing with your emotions. When you choose happiness over anger, sadness, depression or any of the lower vibrating emotions, it not only benefits you but also those around you. Happiness is contagious. A lighter, more positive you can improve the mood of those around you in your home, workplace, and anywhere you go. There is a ripple effect with your choice of emotions and it can spread far and wide as it touches those you come into contact with either in person or virtually. When you embrace happiness, you may touch the lives of others in ways you might not even realize. Your smile may be the only warmth someone sees in any given day. Your kind word may be the only one they experience. Every person you interact with is having their own life experience and may be going through struggles that you are totally unaware of. Consider how you would want to affect them – either in a positive uplifting way or add to their already low vibration. If you think that it doesn’t matter how you present yourself in the world, just look again at the price tag of an emotion such as anger. Now look at how it potentially affects anyone nearby when you choose to let the anger come from inside you and spray it outside of you. If you continue to do this for an entire day, you not only rob yourself of a day of happiness, but you have contaminated others with this low vibration who will probably contaminate others who will pass it along to others. Are you beginning to get the bigger picture of the price tag? We encourage you to have more self-awareness of your choices with regards to emotions. If you cannot choose happiness, at least take time to consider what staying in a lower vibrational state will cost before you fill up your shopping cart with it. Remember the words of the psalmist, “Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.”
Dear Angels, thank you. I love you. Namaste y’all.
Today, I promise to look at my emotional state of being and choose wisely.
