Shoo Fly
“Life is not just the passing of time. Life is the collection of experiences and their intensity.” Jim Rohn
Tonight the angels reminded me of a time last year when I was camping out at a place called Valley Of Fire. It was rustic and totally not connected to any form of internet or phone service. I spent a week there unplugged from the craziness of my everyday life. Time shifted and I changed. With each day a new experience emerged. I have written about this place before but tonight the memories were different. I was reminded of the flies that were everywhere and so very persistent. They were so relentless that nothing I did would stop them – bug spray on me, around me, smoke, waving my arms like a mad woman…nothing phased them. I finally reached the end of my patience and went to sit in my car just to be able to breathe and let my body and mind rest. I leaned my head back and closed my eyes, grateful for peace and silence. As I opened my eyes and looked out the side window, a lone fly was sitting there on the side mirror staring intently at me. You have got to be kidding me, I said! What .. do .. you .. want?? Louder than my yelling at this innocent creature who was just a messenger, I heard the voice of the fly delivering the words “what are you hiding from?” YOU I screamed, I am hiding from you! As soon as I said that, he left. I sunk back in my seat and that was when it hit me that the fly was just a representation of myself caught up in the noisy chatter of the world. I was hiding from myself and I would continue to be irritated and frustrated until I shut out the distractions that pulled me away from going deeper inside.
Dear Angels, sometimes life’s lessons can be harsh and relentless, like the flies in our life. Sometimes we need that! Help us understand the letting go process.
Dear Ones, there are times when the messengers of your life lessons have to get beyond your comfort zone in order for you to see things more clearly. We understand that this is uncomfortable and that you would prefer it to be softer and easier for you. Sometimes you need the intensity to get the full impact of the gravity of the lesson. Don’t shoot the messenger! See yourself in the person or creature who is bringing you the information. For you to totally get it, it has to be personal. If you prefer to lie on the beach chair and let the world pass you by, that is your choice. If you want to dive into the deep end and discover how to rise up from your challenges, that is also your choice. Either way, the fly will just hang out with you. You may want to make friends with him.
Dear Angels, I’m not sure I like this lesson although I can feel the enormity of it. Thank you. I love you. Namaste y’all.
