Silence Is Golden

“If what one has to say is not better than silence, then one should keep silent.” Confucius

I saw a sign that read “a wise man once said nothing.” There have been many times in my own life that I have had to bite my tongue and keep quiet. What a difference it would make in this world if more people would do that. If it is not my concern, then it does not need input from me. It all goes back to “stay in your lane.” If someone wants your opinion and asks for it, that is a different matter. However, just jumping in to deliver your opinion unsolicited can create more conflict than any good it might do.

Dear Angels, this need to be seen and heard can sometimes cause us to speak about things that do not concern us and only seem to stir things up. How do we know when to speak up and when to remain silent in difficult situations?

Dear Ones, we would encourage you that before you speak in any situation, ask yourself some questions that will help you see your true motive. The words passed down from Socrates are a great start. He advised asking if what you have to say is true, kind, helpful, conducive to harmony. Many times your words can have a peacekeeping effect on a conversation, especially if they meet these criteria. Let these be the gatekeepers of how you hold conversation with others. If your agenda is to help, then by all means please speak up. If you are speaking only to toot your own horn and inject your opinions, then silence is the best option. Always seek to add to the solution of what is happening in your world instead of adding to the problem. Honor each other. Respect each person just as you desire to be respected. Think before you speak, Dear Ones, and then speak only from a place of love.

Dear Angels, thank you. I love you. Namaste y’all.

Today, I promise to pay closer attention to the words I use to share my opinions with others.
