Smile From The Heart

I may not remember your name immediately, but I do remember your smile. My absolute favorite quote from Paramahansa Yogananda is “Let my soul smile through my heart and let my heart smile through my eyes, that I may scatter Thy rich smiles in sad hearts.” Many times we do not know what someone is going through when we cross their path. I want to share a story that was told to me by a dear friend. Kathy is someone I knew during my career days as a transcriptionist. She is bubbly, joyful and her smile is contagious. One day many years ago we were discussing how important it is to be kind to people. She relayed the story to me of what happened to her at a class reunion. She encountered a classmate and he wanted to speak with her about something. She did not remember him, but he sure remembered her. One day at school he had decided that his life was not worth living. He had no friends, no hope and already had a plan to end his life. He shared that as she came down the stairs that day, she smiled at him and said a warm hello. She SAW him in a world where no one else did. It was the lifeline he had been searching for. It was a turning point in his young life, to be seen and to receive warmth from another human being. It wasn’t important that she did not remember him or know his name. What mattered was that years before she did something that she did all the time as it was her nature, she smiled. The young man just happened to be at the right place at the right time. It is what we call Divine Timing.
It saddens me that we live in a world now where smiles are covered by masks. I will not get into a discussion about masks but I need to make that statement. I know the story that was told to me is not an isolated incident. I know there are hurting people out there whose life may depend on the kindness and compassion of others. So many are at the end of their ropes and looking for a lifeline. And yes, I know that if a smile is genuine it will reach the eyes and shine from there. However, have you ever been at the point of such low self-esteem that you were unable to make eye contact with anyone? I have. You can see a smile much easier than you can make eye contact, especially when you are at a low point.
Dear Angels, we live in such a different world today where fear abounds and one of our means of communication with each other, our smile, has become hidden away. My heart aches for those who cannot find the light in their darkness. How can we break through this barrier?
Dear Ones, we wish you could see you the way we see you. You are all so beautiful. We understand everything you said and it is a really valid point. Humans have an innate need for interaction with each other. You look to each other for companionship, comfort and love. As you help each other walk through the human journey, you need to know you are not alone. While sometimes being alone is an important part of your learning process, you are basically social creatures and desire the company of each other. Whenever one sees themselves as a cipher, they lose all identify in the world they live in. Perhaps they have suffered much loss or disappointment, abuse or abandonment in life. There are ways to show your care and concern. While the smile is the fastest way to send that energy to another, you can also speak a warm word, give an acknowledgement that you see each other, be respectful and courteous. You emanate a vibration and through your intuition you know if it is a welcoming frequency in others or not. This is something you share with animals and if you observe how they interact with each other and with humans, you will understand it more fully. Let your communication come from your heart, Dear Ones. If you are of pure heart, those who need to see your warmth will indeed find it. Your love will surely find its way as your desire is strong for it to do so.
