ULTIMATE SACRIFICES

Teri Angel in front of a sharing board at Transplant Games of America

“If you love life, don’t waste time, for time is what life is made up of.”  Bruce Lee

I was walking in an event at Transplant Games of America when a woman started passing me, or so I thought. She actually was coming up to me and as she did so she said, “Thank you for being here.” Then she surprised me with a hug. This from a perfect stranger who knew nothing of my journey but I also did not know about hers. So I asked and found out that her son was a living organ donor who later on died in a car accident. A living donor for those who may not know is someone who chooses to donate an organ to another human who would otherwise either need treatment such as dialysis for their kidneys or die if there is no treatment. Her son is a hero in my eyes and definitely in hers. I have met so many people with amazing stories in the last few days. We honored the families of those who helped save lives through organ donation when they lost a loved one. Many carried pictures with them as they walked in the parade, keeping their memories alive and honoring the many lives that were saved by their selfless act of giving and compassion. I found myself getting very emotional as these beautiful families marched in, some with smiles and some with tears, as we recognized their sacrifices. It touched my heart that they were part of what made a difference in so many lives. The success stories shared by those I have met give me hope that we are making progress with transplantation. I celebrated 49 years of success today with my kidney transplant. I met someone who received her heart 28 years ago and another man with 31 years of a successful heart transplant which he received at age five. There are so many stories that need to be shared. What I realized is that my story also needs to be shared more because with every person I spoke with, I was more inspired, and if I can inspire even one person to decide to help in whatever way they can, then it is worth speaking up. Currently, 103,921 men, women and children are awaiting organ transplants. A new name is added every eight minutes.

Dear Angels, I believe that everything that happens in life is part of a Divine plan. The choices we make along our journey shape us into the unique people we are. One choice we can make is to be compassionate toward our fellow beings and choose to do acts of kindness. Some of those acts of kindness may make all the difference in how another person survives.

Dear Ones, when you care enough about your fellow beings that you are walking the earth with to show your compassion through unselfish acts, that is love. We remind you of these words from the scriptures, “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.” As you consider how you are going to show up in the world, look around you. Where do you see a need and is it possible for you to make a difference to those in need? Not everyone is able to make a sacrifice, yet there are many ways you can help in a situation. Only you can decide your course of action. Sometimes, just shining a light on a problem can start the process of looking for a solution. Look into your heart and see what you are willing to do. Always use your gut and your guidance from spirit to help you make decisions in life.

Dear Angels, thank you. I love you. Namaste, y’all.

Today, I promise to show more kindness in the world.

PLEASE CONSIDER BEING AN ORGAN DONOR.
